Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one; identify at least two more.
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict.
1.Tao was starving. he couldn't kill the helpless wolf and he should have.
2.I think he will find food.Also get a rabbit. Also nothing will happen to him as long as no one finds out what happened.
Chapter 2
What two important events happen in this chapter?
Tao was starving and he tried to find food and found acorns in a tree.He encountered a small wolf and noticed why the wolf was so weak he saw a splinter.
Chapter 3
1. What do Tao and Ram learn to do together?
Hunt and cooperate
2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?
That he will hunt alone.
3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person paragraph explaining how you feel.
"I think tao is slacking off." "He is so stupid, he keeps making horrible discisions and I caught him drawing and that is a taboo." "I don't think he will learn anything about hunting." Hey everybody listen up, Because there's somethin' I have to say. Tao's mom seems like a very interesting woman and a fighting woman. When the mountain people said because he was born with a disadvantage they were going to take from her and feed him to the hyenas.

2. Which is easier for him and why?
Well first he tried to draw a horse and that didn't turn out to well at all. Then he drew ram and did excellent on that drawing. It was easier for Tao to draw was ram because ram was something he cared about a lot and had more patience.

1. Graybeard realizes that Tao has broken two taboos of his clan. What are they?
2. Which taboo doesn't he know about yet?
3. Graybeard describes Volt differently than we have. What aspects of Volt's character is Graybeard acknowledging?
Drawing without being a son of a leader or is not a chosen one. Also hunting with a wolf dog. He doesn't know he's not supposed to go threw the slough.He says Volt is very nice really. He doesn't like wolf dogs because him and his mother was attacked and his mom died and his dad said it was a wolf dog.

I agree with him Tao shouldn't draw because if he ever gets caught he'll probably be killed. It's true then,but not now.

An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today.

The people who are born with injuries or had an accident and became handicapped in anyway that can't play football.

Why do you think Graybeard changed his mind?
What does this tell you about his character?
It's because he realized that he's fighting for having his own rights to draw.Graybeard is kind and he knows a lot about everything.

Mammoths. He almost died by mammoths.

Would you like to have been taught a skill by him? Why?
Yes, because he gives discipline and sets boundaries. He can draw the best.
Oh yeah! If he was teaching me the skills of drawing I would never mess up.

2. Why is Tao afraid at the end of the chapter?
1.Limestone powder, a saucer-shaped rock, a smooth round stone, blood, and charcoal.
1.that Graybeard was so sick that he was going to die.

1. Even if Ram had succeeded in hunting the deer, do you think it was a good idea of Tao's to "show off" his dog's ability to hunt? Explain.

1.No! Even if he had caught the deer the would still have to try to kill Ram.
I think maybe they'll catch Tao and do something bad to him.

Man was I surprised when I found out that Volt was Tao's father. He was so mean in the beginning. Also when Volt gave Tao a spear I was confused to why he did that. That was one of the best chapters I've ever read in a chapter book. That was awesome! I that this book was going to be boring.

Why does Tao feel he needs to go to the Mountain People?
It's because Tao is feeling that since he was born there that he should live there.
